The impact of covid-19 on the life of Esther Naini from Kenya
My name is Esther Naini.
2020, a year that will forever be engraved in my heart. We were all going on with our normal lives until one day a virus appeared and shook the world. It did not discriminate and I among many students around the world soon felt its impact in our day to day lives.
I’m very fortunate and grateful that my university was among the few Universities in Kenya which were able to transition learning to virtual classes which sure came with it’s own merits and demerits.
The advantages online learning paved for me was mastering the art of thorough research. I realized I was researching more on certain topics to get better understanding as internet interactions and power outages really affected our learning. Due to that I’ve developed a passion for reading which wasn’t the case before.
The quarantine period and the lockdown hit me hard with loneliness but most importantly gave me an opportunity to introspect and learn how to be innovative in a world full of uncertainties. I spent most of my time studying and looking for online writing jobs that would help me raise a few coins for myself. It was so fulfilling and kept me busy all the time.
That same period validated my passion for community development as it opened my eyes to the world I want to be 100%part of. A world where communities will be empowered to find solutions to their own problems because every person has the potential to do better.
My University will enable face to face classes for new students but the ongoing students will proceed with online classes to ensure that all Covid-19 guidelines are adhered to.
I’m optimistic that this new year will bring good tidings as I start planning on what to do after school as I’m soon going to finish. I’m very grateful and happy that 2020 taught me to live life with an open mind.
Thank you Stand Up for Talent for standing with me since the beginning.
Happy New Year.
Blessings
Esther Naini.
