The impact of covid-19 on the life of Lawrence from Malawi
Covid-19 is a disease that is caused by Coronavirus and it started from Wuhan in China and then spread all over the world. This is pandemic disease because it has caused the lives of people to suffer physically and economically everywhere in the world. It has taken a lot of people into death where their destiny will ruin them forever. It has led suffering of many souls being orphans, widowers and making others in less privileged level as their sponsors have gone leaving them dead economically.
Nations have suffered from all angles of their services. Tourism sector was totally dead in all countries as people who are tourists were not able to travel as airports were closed and road transport was limited. Due to this pandemic many departments in nations suffered. These negative impacts of Covid-19 did not leave schools and universities alone as schools and universities were also affected. Schools and universities were closed in all regions making students to suffer academically.
Although schools and universities introduced online studies which had a lot of shortfalls. Many students did not register due to lack of network more especially in remote areas where life is very hard. Not only that but also students were unable to attend online studies due to lack of finances and technology equipments such as laptop, phones and other academic gadgets.
Myself I was lucky because it was just a matter of typing my dissertation document for two days a week so it was easy to send via WhatsApp to my lectures so it was at least cheap than on internet. So for me I saw it good to study online as some lecture are flexible online than in physical class. Online studies its good because both students and lectures can be clean and be free of mind, this study avoid people to be in quarrels and keeping of grudges as there is no physical contact. Some students fail exams because many lectures keep grudges as such they do punish students at the final mark of grades. I did like it although it was not easy to follow it at first. There is delay of course due to Covid-19 pandemic as there was no physical contact as dissertation needs physical contact with supervisor for better corrections of shortfalls in the document. This is what made me not to graduate this year hence will graduate next year. This pandemic has led extra expenses to be paid to schools and universities as some courses are regarded as repeat courses. That means we have to pay fees, accommodation and cafeteria fees based on the period to be at school.
The next year academic will be perfect as we have known how to prevent the spread of the disease in our localities and schools. Everything will be good provided materials and finances are available to study either online or using physical studies at schools and universities.
Living in such time it’s good to find something very amiable to survive. We will academically propel as am going to study online with UNICAF University in Lilongwe, Malawi at Master’s degree level in Business Administration after my graduation at the Catholic University of Malawi-Chiradzulu district (Nguludi Mission-PIM, John Chilembwe Museum road) with a degree in Accountancy. The following is a poem that I cited concerning the pandemic .
THE SILENT HURRICANE
This is silent hurricane like a hissing sound
It is heard from a distance
Like a wind it blows, where it goes we feel it
But nobody sees it
The faster it blows, the stronger it becomes
Destruction is its intention.
Where it passes it causes great damage
Sorrow and grief it’s what it knows
People stand horrified by its effect
People stand with gazing eyes
Covid-19 is the silent hurricane as it has caused great sorrow
It has left many as widows, widowers and orphans
Mercy it does not know and forgiveness it does not believe
It can’t raise up like mountains and it cannot lift up shoulders
The silent hurricane is real and it kills
It has taken many on journey that they do not return
To the grave as their last destination
The cries of many it has caused
The way where there is no coming back
It has left the cries of states
The shadows and calamities of economy it has caused
The public sector and private sector has bowed down to it
Pillars of faith in their hearts it has destroyed
It does not know rich or the poor
For it has taken them all to their last home
All ages are affected and hitted by it
For elders, the sick, the children and those with underlying cases with vulnerable
It has caused deserts in many areas
As people with chronic medical conditions as diabetes, BP
Are at more risk of developing severe symptoms.
With World Health Organization and health ministries in our path
We are told; stay at home, stay safe, wash hands regularly with soap
Maintain social distance with 1m apart, don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth and always use masks
Use sanitizer to keep safe from Covid-19
The common symptoms of Covid-19
Are as Fever, tiredness and dry cough
Some patients have muscle aches, runny nose, nasal congestion
Sore throat and diarrhoea
People with cough, difficulty breathing or fever
Should be self-isolated and seek medical attention urgently
Covid-19 is indeed a Hurricane.
